The problem The OEM Volkswagen cup holder works by retracting to & from the dashboard, when it pops out there are two flaps which hold two drinks. However the flaps work on a spring mechanism which often breaks. The flaps also put too much pressure on paper cups (such as those from drive-thrus) and can cause them to spill. Installed new rubbish cheapo rear cup holder which is in my mk6 golf GTi but supposedly in the Jetta models too. Only go OEM. Although for $20, what did I expect.

2000 Jetta cup holder was broken and would fall out. I found a nice replacement part on Amazon and fixed it in a few minutes. Here is a link to the part I used. 🤍

Replacing a broken cup holder in a 2002 VW Polo SDi E. The cup holders in these cars are quite a bit of engineering but they are also quite fragile and break easily, it has been broke in this polo for the past few years. The dash centre section also had scratches on it when the rubbery texture thats sprayed n started to peel it looks terrible when this starts to happen, and finally the car only had a Casette player, no way to play CD's. The centre section was removed, cup holder replaced and a CD player unit slid into the place where the storage box used to be. I think you could fit a VW 6 CD changer into this slot but for the time being a single CD player will do fine. The video is a bit shaky because i got asked by my cousin to do this work on the polo, and unfortunately the only camera equipment i had was my iPhone with less than 10% battery.

I removed the center console in my last video, however I chose to make it into it's own video. There are many reasons why you would need to remove it. I will end up having a video later, that would require the centre console being removed again. To remove the cup holder you will need a 2.5 mm allen key and some patience. Also if the tab to raise the wood panel inside the cup holder is broken then you may want to remove the other cup holder first so you can release the mechanism holding the wood panel down from the under side of the cup holder. You need to be able to pop the wood panel partly back up when you have the cup holder halfway out otherwise part of the cup holder sticks out the side and stops you from pulling the cup holder the rest of the way out without breaking it.
