How’s THIS for a three-way German showdown?! We’ve got Yianni in the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S e-hybrid and he’s facing off against Mat in a BMW M5 Competition and Daniel in a Porsche Panamera Turbo S e-hybrid. But which is quickest over the quarter mile? Well, let’s take a closer look. Starting with the all-new AMG, it’s powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 coupled with an electric motor, which combines to produce 843hp and an incredible 1,400Nm of torque! That hybrid system means it’s pretty heavy though, weighing in at 2,305kg! But it’s not just the weight that’s large, so is the price, with it costing around £174,000! Even though it’s heavy, it’s not the heaviest here - that honour goes to the Porsche, which tips the scales at 2,350kg! In terms of power, it’s also equipped with a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 coupled with an electric motor to deliver 700hp and 870Nm. It’s a fair bit cheaper than the AMG though, costing around £146,000. Then finally we have the BMW. Packing a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet, it’s able to put down 625hp and 750Nm of torque. It’s a whole lot lighter than the other contenders, though, coming in at 1,865kg. It’s also the cheapest here, costing around £110,000. So the BMW has the least power, but will the weight difference prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE! We’ve got Mat lining up in the Tesla Model S Plaid, and he’s about to go head-to-head against a Ferrari SF90 & Porsche 911 Turbo S! So let’s see how these three compare. Starting with the Tesla, it’s equipped with three electric motors - one on the front axle, and two on the rear. Combined they produce an almighty 1,020hp and 1,420Nm of torque. Naturally, the motors and batteries weigh it down a bit, so it tips the scales at 2,190kg. In terms of price, you can pick one up new for £113,000. Next up we have the Ferrari. Not only does it come with three electric motors, but it’s also packing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8! When they combine, it can put down an incredible 1,000hp and 800Nm! It’ll come as no surprise that it’s lighter than the Tesla, weighing in at 1,580kg (but we think Ferrari may be watering down their figures a bit…). And while it’s lighter than the Tesla, it’s SO much more expensive, costing from £376,000! Then finally we have the Porsche. It’s powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six that can produce 650hp and 800Nm. This power is sent to all four wheels, and it tips the scales at 1,640kg. It may be cheaper than the Ferrari, but it still carries a hefty price tag, costing from £180,000! Thanks to R44 Performance for lending us their M3: - 🤍 - 🤍 At first glance you might think the result of this drag race is a foregone conclusion. Surely there’s no way a BMW M3 can beat a Porsche 911 Turbo S over the quarter-mile, right? Well let’s check out the stats. Starting with the Porsche, it’s powered by a glorious 3.8-litre twin-turbo straight-six that can deliver 650hp and 800Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels, and it weighs in at 1,640kg. If you were looking to pick one up, prices start from around £180,000. Then we have the BMW M3. It comes in a whole lot cheaper than the Porsche, with prices starting from around £84,000. However, this one has had around £8,000 spent on it to give it a tune… And the results are INCREDIBLE! It’s still packing a 3-litre twin-turbo straight six, but the power output has increased from 510hp & 650Nm to 750hp and 900Nm! What’s more, the weight hasn’t been affected, so it still tips the scales at 1,780kg. Could the Porsche be about to lose its drag race crown? In this episode of The Driver’s Seat, Henry Catchpole visits a famous road that has always fascinated him - the incredible Tail of the Dragon. It’s obviously not a race track, but it has some of the mystique and atmosphere of the Nurburgring Nordschleife when you rock up in the car park at the weekend. You might see anything from a modded Honda Civic Type-R to a Carrera GT and everyone is there because they have petrol running through their veins. However, away from The Tail of the Dragon, Catchpole finds that there is much, MUCH more to explore in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. In fact this might just be the greatest, most extensive collection of driving roads in the world, with incredible stretches of asphalt scattered all over this amazing, densely forested area. Of course a great driver’s road needs a great driver’s car and they don’t get much better than the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS. With the naturally aspirated engine from the 911 GT3 mounted in the middle of the car it is an absolute joy to drive. In fact the only thing that sounds better than one of these engines revving to 9000rpm is two of them. Or three. Or four. Which is what happened when we met up with some of the cars from Smokies GT. Everything from a 993 RS to a well used 996 GT3 to a PTS 992 GT3 was there and it was wonderful to duck and dive with the cambers, watching the wings and hearing the howls. There was even time to stop and brew coffee on the rear wing of a 997 GT3. All in the name of raising money for the battle against Cystic Fibrosis. We hope you enjoy the episode. Kalle Samooja returns to defend his title and is joined in the field by a host of Ryder Cup hopefuls including Victor Perez, Robert MacIntyre and Rasmus Højgaard, along with in-form home favourites Marcel Siem and Yannik Paul. Højgaard arrives in Germany off the back of a tie for the third at the KLM Open - his best result of an injury-interupted season so far. Porsche drag races don’t get any better than this! We’ve got our hands on the all-new, limited edition Porsche 911 Dakar, and it’s joined by a whole host of different Porsches for a drag race on mud! We’ve got our hands on a 911 Dakar, 911 Carrera 4 GTS, Macan GTS, Taycan Cross Truism, Cayenne e-hybrid and a first-get Cayenne S, and we’re about to find out whether the 911 Dakar can truly leave them in the dust! So let’s see how they all compare. Starting with the Carrera 4 GTS, it comes packing a 3-litre twin-turbo flat-six that can deliver 480hp and 570Nm of torque through all four wheels. In terms of weight, it comes in at around 1,600kg. The 911 Dakar is based on this car, so it comes with the same engine, power output and weight. However, it’s got a number of updates over the standard car! It’s been lifted, and comes with an updated chassis and bespoke off-road tyres, just to name a few of the changes. The second race features the Macan GTS and the Taycan Cross Turismo. The Macan is packing a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 that can put down 440hp and 550Nm of torque. It delivers this power to all four wheels and weighs in at 1,960kg. Alongside it, we have the all-electric Taycan Cross Turismo, which has two electric motors that produce 571hp and 650Nm, and it weighs in at 2,245kg. Finally, we have the two Cayennes. The first-gen is a Cayenne S that’s had a whole load of mods done to it to make it capable of tackling an off-road course. In terms of power, it’s packing a 4.5-litre V8 that can put down 340hp and 420Nm. When it comes to weight, it tips the scales at 2,150kg. And last but by no means least, we have the Cayenne e-Hybrid. It’s powered by a 3-litre turbocharged V6 and an electric motor, which combine to produce 462hp and 700Nm. Naturally, it’s pretty heavy, coming in at around 2,300kg. So will it be a clean sweep for the Dakar? Or could another car sneak a win? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

These three German cars each look to make it down the strip first. The all-wheel drive Golf R and mid-engined Cayman may have a traction edge over the rear-driven M2 off the launch.
