A severe stormfront is expected to hit several U.S. states this week, bringing potential flash floods and tornadoes amid record heatwaves, according to the American National Weather Service. After a weekend of intense rainfall, Washington is expected to be hit with even more storms. D.C.’s Homeland Security is set to issue its second-highest alert warning of high-speed winds, too. Get your rain gear ready, western Washington. It’s going to be a wet one this week. An atmospheric river, also known as a pineapple express, arrived in western Washington Monday and continued to unleash a tropical-like deluge over the region Tuesday. The steady rain and higher snow levels caused rivers to rapidly rise and standing water on roads across the region. The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for western Washington through late Wednesday night. Officials are also urging drivers to use caution on the roads Tuesday as standing water was reported on roads across the region. The firehose of mild Pacific moisture saturating the lowlands has also increased the risk of landslides in our area.
