It usually lasts about 40 weeks, starting from the first day of your last menstrual period. These 40 weeks are grouped into three segments called trimesters. The first trimester lasts about 13 weeks. During the first two weeks, you weren't actually pregnant because of the way your due date is calculated. But, your body is preparing for pregnancy. During the second week, an egg is released from your ovary, in a process called ovulation. Around the end of the second week, the baby is conceived in a process called conception or fertilization. This happens when a sperm from the father merges with the egg from the mother, usually in the fallopian tubes. During conception, genetic material from the mother and father combine to form a unique genetic code, instantly determining sex, hair color, eye color, and hundreds of other characteristics. This new single cell, called a zygote or embryo, is the beginning of a new human being. During the third week, the zygote divides to form a hollow ball of cells called a blastocyst. The cells of the blastocyst begin to arrange themselves into two groups. The inner group will develop into your baby, and the outer group will form tissues to nourish and protect it. During week four, the blastocyst moves into the uterus, where it hatches out of its outer layer. Once freed from this outer layer, the blastocyst can embed itself in the thickened lining of the wall of the uterus, in a process called implantation. Weeks 5 to 10 are referred to as the embryonic period. All of the major organs start to grow such as the brain, spinal cord, and heart. The heart begins to beat during this period. Structures called the placenta and umbilical cord begin providing life support for the embryo. They bring nutrients and oxygen from the mother to the embryo. Bones and muscles start to grow beneath thin, transparent skin. Toward the end of the embryonic period, the embryo starts to look more human. At the end of week 10, the embryo is now called a fetus and is about 1.25-inches long from head to rump. During the next few weeks, the arms and legs grow longer and start to move. Fingers and toes finish developing, and the baby's face becomes well-formed. By the end of the first trimester, your baby is almost three inches long. Your body experiences many changes during the first trimester. This is due to changing levels of chemicals called hormones circulating through your body. The most common first sign of pregnancy is that your menstrual periods have stopped. You may have other symptoms as well, such as nausea, often called morning sickness, that can occur at any time of day, tender, swollen breasts, mood swings, constipation, weight loss or weight gain, craving or disliking certain foods, and feeling more tired than usual. You may have only a few of these symptoms or none at all. If you have any questions about how your baby is developing, or concerns about how you're feeling, talk to your healthcare provider. Do you know where babies come from? When a sperm from one person and an egg from another person join and implant in a uterus, a pregnancy has begun. There are different ways this process can happen, including sexual intercourse and certain medical procedures. Pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks from the first day of a person’s last menstrual period. A #pregnancy is divided into three sections called trimesters. Watch the full video to learn more! Please like, share and subscribe to AMAZE! Review us on CommonSense too! This video is going to focus more on the technical side of things that I did once I came off the pill in order to conceive (the doctors I saw, the tests I had done, and the tracking/charting I did while TTC). I will speak more about the emotional side (like how we knew we were ready for a baby) in a future video! In Sept 2020, I decided to go off the pill. Coming off the pill at 29, I was ready to begin the process of getting my natural cycle back on track, and my thought at that time was that I wanted to wait until the following September (2021) to begin trying to conceive. As you all know, we got pregnant in April 2021, so this plan obviously took a turn and we started trying much earlier than expected. Immediately after I came off the pill, I set up an appointment with my doctor. I did some bloodwork to check for antibodies (to see if I was up-to-date on certain vaccines) and Michael and I also did genetic testing. Because it came back that I needed two different vaccine boosters (MMR and Varicella), I was told to NOT try to get pregnant during this time since they are live vaccines. Fast forward to October (one month later), and I decided that I was officially ready to start trying. I decided that it would be better to start trying then and get pregnant SOONER rather than start trying when we initially said and then have that timeline pushed back if we were to encounter any issues. However, there were some road blocks during this time as I still needed to get my period back! In addition, my health was worsening during this period - I was getting terrible migraines daily and found out that I had celiac disease! There were a few things that I did immediately after coming off the pill. The first was tracking. I began tracking everything about my ovulation and cycle. I took my basal body temperature every morning, used OTC ovulation predictor kits, used digital OPKs, and checked my daily cervical fluid. My temperatures seemed normal, but I would ovulate about every 40 days (instead of every 28 days). Although it was not normal length-wise, the fact that I WAS ovulating at all was a good sign. These long ovulation windows lasted until December, when I began to experience all these crazy health issues, inducing stress, and causing my period to disappear completely. I went back to my OBGYN and got a progesterone supplement to ‘induce’ my period. Around January 2021, I cut out gluten completely, my headaches went away and my period came back on its own. During this time I got the greenlight to begin trying! One of the biggest questions I got was which days I had sex to get pregnant, and honestly, it’s going to be different for everyone because we all ovulate on different days! When I began to hit that ovulation stage, we started having sex every day throughout my fertile window. Ultimately, all the planning and prepping paid off, and we got pregnant that month! After two weeks, my temperature remained elevated instead of dropping back down, which was a sign of pregnancy! I hope this video was helpful for those who are either trying to conceive or just want to learn more about their cycles. LIVE pregnancy test results: How to take a pregnancy test at home. In this video, I offer a few tips and demonstrate how to take a pregnancy test at home. I show a side-by-side comparison of a positive pregnancy test result vs a negative pregnancy test result. I also show a time lapse of the pregnancy test progress, and I explain the control vs test lines as well. For the demonstration, I used a pregnancy test called "Assured," which I bought at the Dollar Tree. (Yes, those Dollar Tree pregnancy tests actually work, and they accurately tested positive for both of my pregnancies!) Pregnancy tests like the one I used in this video detect a hormone called hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). This hormone is released after the placenta attaches to the uterine wall. It is best to take a pregnancy test in the morning, as that is when hCG leves are supposed to be most concentrated. #hcg #pregnancytest #pregnant #nurse Notes: 🤍 Website: 🤍 More Videos: 🤍 Nursing Gear: 🤍 Instagram: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 Popular Playlists: NCLEX Reviews: 🤍 Fluid & Electrolytes: 🤍 Nursing Skills: 🤍

Wondering how to get pregnant? It’s not as simple as it seems! Pregnancy takes several days, and there are lots of steps. Here are the basics of how pregnancy works. To learn more about pregnancy, visit 🤍 Transcript: Pregnancy is a pretty amazing process — it all starts with sperm and an egg. Sperm are tiny, microscopic cells that are made in testicles. Sperm cells mix with other fluids to make semen, which spurts out of your penis when you ejaculate. Eggs live in ovaries, and the hormones that control your menstrual cycle cause eggs to mature every month. These hormones also make the lining of your uterus thick and spongy, to prepare for a possible pregnancy. Every month, one mature egg leaves your ovary — this is called ovulation. That egg travels through your fallopian tube, which takes about 12-24 hours. If semen gets into your vagina, sperm can swim up through your cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes, searching for an egg. Sperm cells can live in your body for up to 6 days waiting for an egg to show up. Millions of sperm come out during each ejaculation — but it only takes 1 sperm to meet with an egg, which can lead to pregnancy. When a sperm cell joins with an egg, it’s called fertilization. After that happens, the fertilized egg begins to divide into more and more cells and moves towards your uterus. The ball of cells gets to your uterus about 3–4 days after fertilization, where it can float around for another few days. If the ball of cells attaches to the spongy uterine lining, pregnancy officially begins — this is called implantation. It usually takes around 3-4 days to finish implanting. Up to half of all fertilized eggs naturally don’t implant — they pass out of your body during your period. When the ball of cells implants into your uterine lining, your body starts making pregnancy hormones. These hormones keep your uterine lining in place so it can nourish the pregnancy — that’s why you don’t get your period when you’re pregnant. But if sperm and egg don’t meet up, or a fertilized egg doesn’t implant into your uterus, the lining isn’t needed, and it flows out of your vagina. That’s your period. So it actually takes a lot of steps for pregnancy to happen, and up to 2-3 weeks.

The idea is that by doing this sperms would swim into the fallopian tube and fertilise the egg present there resulting in pregnancy. Indications Unexplained infertility - Doctor may recommend this treatment in cases of unexplained infertility as a first step procedure since this is much cheaper as compared to IVF. Donor sperm - If the semen analysis of natural husband have been found to be inappropriate for pregnancy, one may opt for this method. Such samples are obtained from certified labs only and the donor remains anonymous. Cervical problems - If cervical mucus is too thick or if cervix is closed, it may impede the movement of sperms into tubes. IUI can help in such cases by bypassing the cervix and delivering sperms directly into the uterus. Endometriosis - IUI may be the initial choice for patients suffering from infertility and endometriosis before doing IVF. Problem with semen analysis - If semen analysis shows low sperm count, their weak movement, or abnormalities in sperm size and shape, IUI may help in some of these patients. Allergy to semen - Its a rare condition but in such cases IUI can help as most of proteins in semen are removed before sperms are injected. Ovulation problems - IUI may also be performed for women who have infertility caused by problems with ovulation, including an absence of ovulation or a reduced number of eggs. Risks Intrauterine insemination is a relatively quick, simple and safe procedure but as with any other procedure, certain risks are involved- Infection. There's a slight risk of developing an infection as a result of the procedure. Spotting. At times there is small vaginal bleed as the process of IUI involves placing the catheter in the uterus which can cause minor injury. Multiple pregnancy. When IUI is coordinated with ovulation-inducing medications, the risk of a multiple pregnancy increases. Steps involved in IUI: Intrauterine insemination involves careful coordination so as to be successful hence the results are good only in the hands of an expert in the field of infertility. Preparation of semen sample - Either the male partner provides a semen sample or a vial of frozen donor sperm can be thawed and prepared. The nonsperm elements can interfere with fertilization, the sample is washed in a way that it separates the highly active, normal sperm from lower quality sperm and other elements. Monitoring for ovulation. The timing of IUI is crucial to get positive results. Monitoring for signs of impending ovulation are monitored by doctor by doing ultrasound. Doctor may also give certain medications to make more eggs at the right time. Determining optimal timing. Most IUIs are done a day or two after detecting ovulation. Your doctor will help you in finding out the right time for the procedure. Time taken for the procedure The actual procedure takes just a minute or two and the total time spent in the hospital is around 15 minutes if everything goes as expected. After-care After insemination, you'll be asked to lie on your back for a brief period. Once the procedure is over, you can get dressed and go about your normal daily activities. You may experience some light spotting for a day or two after the procedure. Results You can do a home pregnancy test at about two weeks from IUI or visit your doctor for the same. Tests done in doctor’s laboratory are better in detecting pregnancy. #IUI #IntraUterineInsemination #BestInfertilityCenterPunjabJalandhar

Learn how to deliver and inspect the placenta: 🤍 Give oxytocin after delivering the baby. Place a basin and clamp the umbilical cord. Gently pull the cord. Once delivered, inspect the cord and the birth canal. Massage the uterus. Look for common abnormalities of cord insertion, including marginal insertion, in which the cord inserts along the placental edge, and velamentous insertion, in which the cord ends before reaching the placenta and some vessels run through the membrane unprotected by Wharton’s jelly. Note the cotyledons. If uncertain, assess the mother for retained products of conception. About the Merck Manuals: First published in 1899 as a small reference book for physicians and pharmacists, The Merck Manual grew in size and scope to become one of the world's most widely used comprehensive medical resources for professionals and consumers. Options to terminate a pregnancy at 4 weeks of pregnancy are absolutely nil. I would discourage you to abort a pregnancy at 4 week seven if you confirm the pregnancy after a urine pregnancy test, please confirm it with a gynecologist by doing an ultrasound that it is a uterine pregnancy. Pregnancy has to be in the uterus before we suggest any method of termination because there is a condition called as ectopic pregnancy where pregnancy happens in the fallopian tube. In that case if you take tablets without knowing, it could be a life danger situation. Pregnancy can be aborted by abortive pills by 5 – 6 week. So you can confirm the pregnancy by weeks by an ultrasound and according to the suggestion of a gynecologist, you can have abortive pills or there are other methods of surgical evacuation, you can think of it and go for it according to you convenience. However I will discourage abortion to anybody because a life is a life at 4 weeks also. So if you want to avoid pregnancy please avoid it.

A medical abortion, also known as medication abortion, occurs when drugs (medication) are used to bring about an abortion. Medical abortions are an alternative to surgical abortions such as vacuum aspiration or dilation and curettage.[5] Medical abortions are more common than surgical abortions in most places, including Europe, India, China, and the United States.[6][7] Medical abortions are typically performed by administering a two-drug combination: mifepristone followed by misoprostol. When mifepristone is not available, misoprostol alone may be used in some situations.[8] Medical abortion is both safe and effective throughout a range of gestational ages, including the second and third trimester.[9] In the United States, the mortality rate for medical abortion is 14 times lower than the mortality rate for childbirth, and the rate of serious complications requiring hospitalization or blood transfusion is less than 0.4%.[10][11][12][13] Medical abortion can be administered safely by the patient at home, without assistance, in the first trimester.[14] Starting with the second trimester, it is recommended to take the second drug in a clinic or provider's office.[14] Medical abortion should not be confused with emergency contraception, which typically involves drugs (such as Levonorgestrel or "Plan B") taken soon after intercourse to prevent a pregnancy from beginning. Drug regimens 200 mg mifepristone and 800 μg misoprostol, the typical regimen for early medical abortion Less than 12 weeks' gestation For medical abortion up to 12 weeks' gestation, the recommended drug dosages are 200 milligrams of mifepristone by mouth, followed one to two days later by 800 micrograms of misoprostol inside the cheek, vaginally, or under the tongue.[15] The success rate of this drug combination is 96.6% through 10 weeks' pregnancy.[16] Misoprostol should be administered 24 to 48 hours after the mifepristone; taking the misoprostol before 24 hours have elapsed reduces the probability of success.[17] However, one study showed that the two drugs may be taken simultaneously with nearly the same efficacy.[18] For pregnancies after 9 weeks, two doses of misoprostol (the second drug) makes the treatment more effective.[19] From 10 to 11 weeks of pregnancy, the National Abortion Federation suggests second dose of misoprostol (800 micrograms) four hours after the first dose.[20] After the patient takes mifepristone, they must also administer the misoprostol. Failure to take the misoprostol may result in any of these outcomes: the fetus may be terminated, but not fully expelled from the uterus (possibly accompanied by hemorrhaging) and may require surgical intervention to remove the fetus; or the pregnancy may be successfully aborted and expelled; or the pregnancy may continue with a healthy fetus. For those reasons, misoprostol should always be taken after the mifepristone.[21] If the pregnancy involves twins, a higher dosage of mifepristone may be recommended.[22]

How Does Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection Work? ICSI IVF Procedure for Pregnancy Animation Video

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection, or ICSI, is a form of in vitro fertilization in which fertilization occurs outside of the body. First, egg cells are harvested and transferred to a special media in a laboratory dish. Within a few hours, a single sperm is injected through a fine needle into the center of an egg cell to aid in the process of fertilization. If successful, the cell will divide and form the beginning stages of an embryo. If necessary, the DNA of a single cell from an embryo may be checked to ensure that various genetic disorders are not present. Typically, several egg cells are harvested and fertilized at the same time then inserted back into the uterus to increase the chances that one will implant and develop into a successful pregnancy. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is an in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure in which a single sperm is injected directly into an egg. Defective sperm function remains the single most important cause of human infertility. Although certain severe forms of male infertility have a genetic origin, others may be the result of environmental factors. During the past decade, ICSI has been applied increasingly around the world to alleviate problems of severe male infertility in human patients who either could not be assisted by conventional IVF procedures or could not be accepted for IVF because too few motile and morphologically normal sperm were present in the ejaculate of the male partner. Indications: This procedure is most commonly used to overcome male infertility problems, although it may also be used where eggs cannot easily be penetrated by sperm, and occasionally in addition to sperm donation. It can be used in teratozoospermia, because once the egg is fertilized, abnormal sperm morphology does not appear to influence blastocyst development or blastocyst morphology. Even with severe teratozoospermia, microscopy can still detect the few sperm cells that have a "normal" morphology, allowing for optimal success rate. Procedure: ICSI is generally performed following a transvaginal oocyte retrieval procedure to extract one to several oocytes from a woman. In ICSI IVF, the male partner or a donor needs to provide a sperm sample on the same day when your eggs are collected. The sample will be checked in the lab, and If there is no sperm in his semen, doctors will extract sperm from epididymis or testicle. The extraction of sperm from epididymis is also known as percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (PESA) and extraction of sperm from testicle is also known as testicular sperm aspiration (TESA). The procedure is done under a microscope using multiple micromanipulation devices (micromanipulator, microinjectors and micropipettes). A holding pipette stabilizes the mature oocyte with gentle suction applied by a microinjector. From the opposite side a thin, hollow glass micropipette is used to collect a single sperm, having immobilised it by cutting its tail with the point of the micropipette. The oocyte is pierced through the oolemma and directed to the inner part of the oocyte (cytoplasm). The sperm is then released into the oocyte. The pictured oocyte has an extruded polar body at about 12 o'clock indicating its maturity. The polar body is positioned at the 12 or 6 o'clock position, to ensure that the inserted micropipette does not disrupt the spindle inside the egg. After the procedure, the oocyte will be placed into cell culture and checked on the following day for signs of fertilization. In contrast, in natural fertilization sperm compete and when the first sperm penetrates the oolemma, the oolemma hardens to block the entry of any other sperm. Concern has been raised that in ICSI this sperm selection process is bypassed and the sperm is selected by the embryologist without any specific testing. However, in 2006 the FDA cleared a device that allows embryologists to select mature sperm for ICSI based on sperm binding to hyaluronan, the main constituent of the gel layer (cumulus oophorus) surrounding the oocyte. The device provides microscopic droplets of hyaluronan hydrogel attached to culture dish. The embryologist places the prepared sperm on the microdot, selects and captures sperm that bind to the dot. Basic research on the maturation of sperm shows that hyaluronan-binding sperm are more mature and show fewer DNA strand breaks and significantly lower levels of aneuploidy than the sperm population from which they were selected. A brand name for one such sperm selection device is PICSI. A recent clinical trial showed a sharp reduction in miscarriage with embryos derived from PICSI sperm selection. 'Washed' or 'unwashed' sperm may be used in the process. Live birth rate are significantly higher with progesterone to assist implantation in ICSI cycles.
