I have had this Atlas copco LFX compressor for around 7 years, bought used and was originally owned by the NHS so has seen some use. I think it is around 15 years old so is doing pretty good. It has been getting noisier over the last year and recently it started to make a loud squeaking noise and then would randomly seize up, but when stopped it would free up again. This video will cover disassembly and diagnosis of this issue. Part 2 will cover reassembly. It is worth noting this LFX model appears to have all the same part numbers as the newer LXF version, I used the parts diagram from the LXF as a rough guide as i couldnt find one for the LFX. By adjusting the Compress knob, you increase the Parallel Compression that ComBear adds the the element from value 0 to 100, Bypass ComBear’s effects on an element by flipping the Bypass switch, correct the Make-Up Gain that is altered based on how much Compress you add the the element by adjusting the Make-Up Gain, adjust how much gain comes in from the element by adjusting the Input Gain and finally adjust how much of ComBear you hear on the element with the Mix knob. The Idea behind this plugin was of course Parallel Compression. The main way ComBear can be used is add the plugin to a certain element then have the ability to compress that element pretty hard, and then mix this harshly compressed element with a duplicate of the element that is not compressed. This took a few months to make, the visualizer in the back taking the bulk of the development time. I wanted to make this the best audio compressor in the world... and while it's entirely subjective which compressor is the best, I'm very satisfied with how this turned out. I did a lot of study and mathematics experiments to ensure that this compressor is built in a very high-quality way. This is a purely digital compressor, completely void of any coloring of any kind so you can focus on exactly what a compressor is meant for, being compression. Even with 2572985782 db of input gain, unless your parameter settings are asking for it, you'll hear absolutely no distortion whatsoever. It comes with some fairly unique features, like the toggleable Feedback mode, the Hold control (which is usually only for Gates), the blending between stereo linking modes, the mid/side compression, and the 100% adjustable automatic compression and release, which is significantly more complex than automatic attack/release in most compressors. The automatic attack/release in this compressor analyzes the crest factor (peak divided by RMS) and adjusts those parameters automatically depending on that value. The knobs control how much this has an impact on those parameters, giving you ultimate flexibility which I've never seen in any other compressor. It also features fully-automatable lookahead, which applies a constant 20 ms of latency when enabled regardless of the lookahead time. Along with L/R or M/S balancing for either the sidechain input or the audio itself, a sidechain tilt filter which can transform into a highpass, lowpass, or a hybrid between the two, adjustable RMS sizes that can go all the way up to 21.5 ms, a Mix knob which takes lookahead delay into account, and an audition button that can be used to listen to the delta signal of the compressor to know exactly how the compressor is changing your sound, this is by far LMMS's most complex plugin and I'm very proud to be the author of it. And well, nobody likes a compressor without a fancy visualizer to assist you. Or maybe they do. But those people are weird. The visualizer has a flowing, moving graph showing the input volume, output volume, and gain reduction. It also contains a visualizer of the compressor's dynamics curve, so you can see exactly how your dynamics are being impacted at any time depending on your compressor settings. The compressor window is fully resizeable. You can just drag the corner of the window, and the contents will scale to fit the new size. Also, the visualizer supports zooming in all the way to 3 db or all the way out to 96 db, so you can see what the compressor is doing to your audio with whatever amount of detail best suits your needs. All in all, a very cool plugin. :) This will likely appear in your copy of LMMS 1.3 once that is released. Your compression needs will no longer be an issue. May as well start freeing up your disk space now and put all those VSTs in the recycle bin. ;)

review and test on the top quiet air compressors on the market for California and Kobalt. 🤍 I chose the Kobalt for several reasons. Cost vs 90PSI air delivery, modest tank size, oilless. It's advertised as "Quiet tech" and I had no idea what that would actually mean in real life but figured it couldn't hurt. Out of box was perfect. Unit well packed, everything in place with basic printed instructions. Fired up and cycled to set pressure perfectly. Nice touches are a built in tank drain on the bottom and a hook on the tank to hang a hose from. Not crazy about the two air fittings on the front panel at an upward angle. Seems that puts air hoses under unnecessary strain and also allows airborne crud to fall into them. They're mounted via multiport manifold underneath so this will allow them to be moved or additional ones installed in other directions, so a minor point. The quiet part was a surprise. It really is a lot quieter than my last single stage compressor, by quite a bit. The old compressor I could hear hammering away in the garage from anywhere in the house, this one I have to be inside the garage to hear it. Very nice feature. Very pleased so far with this unit and I think it's a good value at it's price point

The new Danfoss Turbocor® TTH/TGH oil free compressors, offer an expanded operating map to support higher lift applications. These applications include air-cooled chiller operation at high ambient temperatures, heat pumps, low temperature process, and thermal storage applications. Two versions are available: the nominal 107-ton model TTH375 and the nominal 82-ton model TGH285. Consistent with Danfoss’ view on sustainability, environmentally friendly refrigerant options are available for TTH models using either R134a or low-GWP, non-flammable R513A and for TGH models using ultra low-GWP HFO1234ze. With these new models, end users can take full advantage of the benefits of oil-free, magnetic bearing, centrifugal compressor technology in high lift applications previously limited to positive displacement compressors. The TTH and TGH models cannot only operate in demanding high lift applications, but also offer significant benefits versus typical screw compressor chillers. These benefits include higher efficiency, lower sound levels, greater compactness, and lighter weight versus comparable fixed-speed compressors, allowing for easier service and installation. As with all Danfoss Turbocor compressors, the oil-free technology maintains high-efficiency and consistent performance over the life of the compressor.
