Whether it's a .22lr from the Marlin family of semi-auto rifles or the Ruger 10/22, either of these popular rifles will serve you well. If your shooting squirrels, badgers, crows or just cans, these two rimfires will get the job done. We go and shoot side by side to demonstrate the differences in an attempt to shed some light on these two fine firearms. From the Marlin Model 60 to the Glenfield, this covers all the Marlin series of semi-automatic .22lr's.
Marlin - the other Big Name in lever action rifles. Sure, Winchester is more famous because their rifles got more screen time in cowboy movies. But Marlin made just as many lever guns, including the beautiful Model 39A. Brownells Gun Tech Keith Ford tells us about this handy, sweet-shooting .22 rimfire lever action. Due to its tube magazine, the 39A will handle .22 Long Rifle, of course, and also .22 Short and Long. More unusual, the 39A is a takedown rifle, so it easily disassembles into two compact units for carry and storage. Earlier guns came with nice walnut stocks, and from the 1950s onward, the 39A has Marlin's trademark Microgroove rifling. Now, strictly a Marlin Custom Shop item, many, many 39As were manufactured so there are plenty on the used market.
Today were talking about the Marlin Firearms Co. - Model 795. Not only was this my first pew pew I ever bought, but it's definitely one of my favorites to shoot! Comes standard with a 10 round box magazine, which was instantly replaced with a 25 round pro mag. I don't have enough good things to say about it. It's FTV Friday, and he's here to show us around the Marlin Model 60 semi-auto, .22 LR, tubular magazine fed rifle. Introduced in 1960 (of course!), the Model 60 is an update on Marlin's Model 99, with different scope mounting provisions and a stock made of birch vs the Model 99's walnut. Over the years, Marlin made some changes, including upgrades to the feed throat / ejector assembly. The bolt catch added to the triggerguard has led to some unnecessary visits to the gunsmith.... Caleb explains - and offers a word of caution about the magazine tube. The Model 60 has come with a lot of front sight options, though a simple rear leaf sight with elevator is standard. In recent years, a synthetic stock also has been an option. The Model 60 is popular with south Louisiana sugarcane farmers. You'll be surprised at one task they use it for! This is a vintage Golden 39A from the year 1959. The 39 set the standard for what a .22 lever action is supposed to be. It's one of the best rimfire bolt guns on the planet. Good luck trying to equal the impressive performance of the Marlin 925 and XT-22 series of rifles for their reasonable cost. Accuracy is amazing. Easily capable of one hole groups at 50 yds, maybe longer with very careful shooting and ammo selection, the Marlin 925/XT-22s impressed me with their capabilities after THREE YEARS of shooting them for this review. CCI Mini Mags performed with excellence and even Federal Bulk ammo produces acceptable groups. In informal paper punching competitions, like my "Circles of Death" drill and in shooting steel targets, these .22s bring high enjoyment levels. Recreational rifle is its first POU, followed by marksmanship trainer, introductory gun (check out those youth models!), critter getter, and as a replacement trainer for that uber-expensive-to-shoot centerfire bolt gun you have. As with other quality bolt gun designs, reliability is superb. Just make sure you don't short stroke that bolt like some rookie! Replacing the .22 925, the XT-22 brings a wider array of barrels/calibers/stocks/finishes and adds such improvements as a Pro-Fire® trigger, palm swells (yawn), less bolt resistance (love it), and a new design sythetic stock. Both the 925 and XT-22 are highly recommended and I find difffculty preferring one over the other. Some will prefer the now-special North Haven, CT 925s and I don't blame them. Fieldstrip and maintenance is a snap. While you have that bolt out, check out those dual extractors while you're at it. Quality as demonstrated in these three guns (from different eras) is excellent, even in 2011 the new Mayfield, KY-produced XT-22. I saw no issues whatsoever. "Firepower" is ten rounds with the magazine equipped .22LR versions if you pitch the included 7 rd mag and upgrade. For real fun and perhaps more firepower in your RAT or STARLING JIHAD (recommended btw), go for the tube fed Marlin .22s which can be stoked with 25 rds of .22 shorts!. Tube reloading is slower however. With CCI CB rounds, shooting will be very quiet. Many versions are available and shown, all good. Perhaps the threaded end version #70763 Is preferred for suppressor use but it lacks the fun and usefulness of the iron sights. Ergos and features in both guns are great: you will find perfect placement and positive actuation of the safety (ala Rem 700), light and crisp triggers, decent iron sights, right LOP in the stocks, light 5.5 lb carry weights, sling studs/holes, milled 3/8" scope dovetail (limited space however), ultra smooth and fast bolts, adequate butt pad traction, and in the 925, an outstanding synthetic stock. Value is smokin' for these high quality and proven .22 bolt action repeaters. Several other competitive options are shown and discussed but the Marlin XT-22 and 925 models remain one of my favorites of all time.///////////////////////////////Music licensed from Zapac///////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 10 out of 10 for both models, price considered

In this video I show you how accurate my Marlin 22 magnum is. Note- if you look at my rest it is a tripod with a homemade mount on it. Now, this works well but it is for sure not a bench rest. I was able to get a .30 inch group at 50 yards! that equates to .60 at 100 yards which I think is outstanding especially with the rest I was using.. The Marlin 39A is a direct decedent of the model 1891, the first-ever .22 LR lever action rifle. Many claim that the 39A is the very best 22 lever action ever produced (there will be Browning and Winchester fans who may debate this, and Henry fans that should not, but still will!) Today we are going to look at an example from Marlin's 'Golden Age' (ie: pre-Remington acquisition). Produced in 1974, this rifle is in nearly pristine condition. This is a beautiful example of an older Marlin Model 25N. It is a bolt action 22LR that has a detachable 7 round box magazine and a barrel devoid of fixed sights. On this particular rifle that wood and grain look great as does the bluing. We test the zero of the and then shoot a couple of targets to make sure it is still minute of squirrel. A fine example of an older Marlin 22.
