🇬🇪We’re eating Armenian Food BBQ in Georgia! 🌶️ Get Smoked Ghost Pepper: 🤍 (affiliate link) 🔔 Subscribe: 🤍 GAMDZANI, GEORGIA - Today we’re in Samtskhe-Javakheti southern region of Georgia, an area where Georgia, Armenia, and Turkey all come together. We’re meeting up with the nicest Armenian family who are preparing for us a huge Armenian feast - a barbecue on the picturesque side of the lake. You don’t want to miss any of the food, let’s start eating! A huge thank you Kristo from Culinary Backstreets 🤍 for taking me on this food tour today. They offer tours in cities around the world and if you use my code “migrationology10” you can get a discount on booking food tours. So it was a couple of hours drive from Tbilisi, and it’s a totally different setting in Samtskhe-Javakheti. The mountains are gorgeous and green and the lifestyle is more relaxed with plenty of space. The specific village we visited was called Gamdzani and it’s mainly an Armenian village. Kristo had known this family and they run a restaurant and lodge called Family Corner (🤍 It’s truly a one of a kind mountain lodge where you can stay and eat family cooked Armenian food in Georgia. But instead of eating at the restaurant, they took the bbq and all the ingredients to the lake where they set up a huge lakeside Armenian bbq. There was over 13 types of kebabs and so many other side dishes as well, including dolma! It was a meal and a setting in nature that I’ll never forget. Again, thank you to Kristo and Culinary Backstreets for arranging - 🤍 (code: migrationology10) 🎵MUSIC: 🤍 —————————————————— 📱FOLLOW: Instagram: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 —————————————————— 🌶️ 🌶️🌶️ NEW: Smoked Ghost Pepper Available Now: Direct: 🤍 Amazon: 🤍 (affiliate link on Amazon in US)

While war rages in neighbouring Ukraine, Russian President Putin attended the CSTO summit in Armenia on November 23. Putin addressed Russia’s CSTO allies saying they are firmly united by the common history of their victory in "the Great Patriotic War”. Putin pushed the six-nation bloc for more weapons and defence equipment amid reports of depleting Russian arsenal. However, the Russia-led alliance faced a blunt criticism from Armenia for failing to contain “aggression by Azerbaijan”. Experts say recent military setbacks in Ukraine is likely reducing Putin’s influence over allies of the ex-soviet member states. #Russia. #UkraineWar. #CSTOSummit. #ArmeniaRussia. #PutinatCSTO n18oc_world n18oc_crux CRUX is your daily video news guide to the big events that are shaping our world. Today, more Armenians live outside Armenia than within it. Many surviving families of the 1915 Armenian genocide found refuge in countries all over the world. But in recent years, Armenians have again had to flee conflict in places like Syria. Some are now returning to Armenia and spicing up its cuisine with flavors they acquired over generations away from their homeland. Behind Bars Season 2 Episode 6: Armavir Prison, Armenia | Prison Documentary Behind Bars - Bogota, Colombia: 🤍 Once, inmates in Armenian prisons fell into the hands of the "Thieves in Law"- a criminal brotherhood rejecting state authority and living by its own code. They control the prison and control drug trade and smuggling. Nobody knows their leaders, but their power is immense. Armavir prison is the first attempt at limiting their influence by locking them into dedicated cell blocks to protect the other prisoners. Georg Avangyan is afraid. He's in trouble with the "Thieves in Law". Smuggled goods were found in his cell several times. This time, it was a kitchen knife. He's not afraid of the prison management, but of the brotherhood's power. The "Thieves in Law" expect more cell searches and send a signal to Georg's co-inmates: they are to teach the repeat offender a lesson. Panicking, Georg had himself voluntarily locked in a single cell. He may be imagining it all, though. His cell block was considered safe from the brotherhood. Arsen Artstruni prefers to avoid the criminal subculture. He has been in prison for over 20 years. He ordered a double murder as a terrorist in the 1990s and was sentenced to death for it. He didn't see the sun during the first 8 years. While his punishment was converted to life in prison, he has no idea if he will ever be released. He hasn't lost his will to live, though. Arsen is the first Armenian prisoner with a university degree in psychology. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe Free Documentary Channel for free: 🤍 Join the club and become a Free Documentary Patron: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #FreeDocumentary #Documentary #BehindBars ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Free Documentary is dedicated to bringing high-class documentaries to you on YouTube for free. Rosa Linn will represent Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin with the song 'Snap'. 🎶 Snapping 1 2 - where are you?' 🎶 Rosa says: “I think we’ve all been at a snapping point, where it felt like there’s no way out and that the entire world is just crumbling down around you. You start questioning everything, including yourself. I have been there. And what I realized was that I had the strength to shape my reality – it just took getting out of my own way and finding inner-peace. It’s all about self-love and accepting that you are enough. Writing “Snap” was a form of therapy for me and I hope that it can be that for others who are also going through hard times." The Armenian language, being one of the most unique Indo-European languages, is known for its two standard forms, Eastern Armenian and Western Armenian. Eastern Armenian is spoken in the Republic of Armenia, as well as by the Armenian diaspora in countries such as Iran, Russia, Georgia, and other post-Soviet countries. Western Armenian, on the other hand, is primarily spoken by the Armenians in Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, the other parts of the Middle East, as well as South American countries. There are many different varieties, dialects, and accents in both standard forms. Every region in Armenia, and almost every village, has its own dialect. Also, among the diaspora, varieties and dialects have been created that are unique only to them, in which words from other languages (e.g. Persian, Turkish or Russian) are often found. This, of course, has its historical basis. In this video, several different dialects will be presented and discussed. Please contact me on Instagram if you would like to participate in a future video: 🤍 Teni: 🤍 Jessica: 🤍 Zack: 🤍 Antic: 🤍 Andre: 🤍 Armenia is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. Despite the fact that throughout history it has been invaded and occupied by numerous different empires and foreign forces, and although Armenians have on different occasions adopted and implemented new beliefs and ideas into their culture, they have always managed to maintain and preserve their unique identity and language, from the time of the Kingdom of Urartu (also known as Kingdom of Van) going back to the 9th century BCE, to the time of the Orontid dynasty when most Armenians adopted Zoroastrianism, to the early part of the 4th century when Armenia became the first nation to officially adopt Christianity as a state religion. In the ensuing centuries, Armenia witnessed the invasion of numerous different empires, and ultimately in the 19th century, following the war between Iran and Russia, a significant part of historic Eastern Armenia which had been under Iranian control, was annexed by the Russian Empire as per the Treaty of Turkmenchay. While Eastern Armenia remained under Russian control, the historic Western Armenia was under the control of the Ottoman Empire. But as the WWI came to an end and both empires collapsed, parts of historical Armenia gained independence and by 1918 the First Republic of Armenia was established. In the years that followed, after several wars and conflicts, the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic (also known as Soviet Armenia) was established as part of the Soviet Union and remained as such until the 1990s. In the summer of 1990, Armenia declared its independence from the Soviet Union which was confirmed a year later by a referendum, and as the Soviet Union collapsed, the independence of Armenia as sovereign nation became widely recognized. In the post-Soviet era, Armenia has been very successful in linguistic de-Russification and today Armenian (հայերէն / հայերեն) continues to be written in its own writing system, the Armenian alphabet, which was introduced by Mesrop Mashtots in the 5th century. The most widespread Armenian dialect today is the Yerevan dialect (Երևանի բարբառ), an Eastern Armenian dialect composed primarily of Classical Armenian (Grabar) words, with some influence from other languages such as Russian and Persian. Other Eastern dialects include the ancient Artsakh dialect, also referred to as the Karabakh dialect, Parskahayeren, which is spoken by Iranian Armenians, as well as many dialects within Armenia, and several others which are no longer spoken. Western Armenian, which is based mainly on the Istanbul Armenian dialect, also has many subdialects and accents. Historically, there were many different Western Armenian dialects which are now extinct. The dialects which have survived include, among others, Homshetsi (Հոմշեցի / Hemşince), which is spoken by the Hemshin people in northeastern Turkey, Abkhazia, Russia, and Central Asia; the dialects spoken in Syria and Lebanon, such as those in Kessab (كسب), Latakia (اللاذقية), Jisr al-Shughur (جسر الشغور), and Anjar (عنجر); the dialects spoken by the Armenians in Istanbul and Vakıflı (Վաքըֆ), the only remaining Armenian village in Turkey, the Mush dialect (Մշոյ բարբառ) which used to be spoken in the city of Muş in present-day eastern Turkey, but today it is nearly extinct and its remaining few native speakers are scattered in villages in Armenia and three Armenian-populated villages in the Samtskhe-Javakheti province of Georgia, the Karin dialect, which used to be primarily spoken in the city of Erzurum in present-day eastern Turkey, but nowadays, it is mainly spoken in northwestern Armenia, in places such as Gyumri, Artik, Akhuryan, and Aghin.
And where it leaves war-torn Nagorno-Karabakh. Subscribe to our channel! 🤍 Nagorno-Karabakh is a mountainous area in the Caucasus region between Europe and Asia. For more than 30 years, it's been locked in a conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The fight between the two countries began in the early 20th century but became a frozen conflict for 60 years while the whole region was under the control of the Soviet Union. When the Soviet Union fell, newfound independence sparked a brutal six-year war in the region, where Armenia emerged victorious. From 1994 to 2020, Armenia controlled Nagorno-Karabakh, while Azerbaijan rebuilt its military. Fighting erupted again in summer 2020, and Azerbaijan went on the offensive — eventually capturing most of Nagorno-Karabakh and dramatically reshaping the region. We started off with some Lebanese coffee for less than $1 USD before stopping by a kebab shop. The guy inside was making a salad, and they had some spices there as well. We also passed lots of jewelry shops on our way to get some sujuk shawarma. They sold gold necklaces, bracelets, rings, and more. At Basterma Bedo, we saw the cooks slicing chicken and lamb shawarma off the the giant stacked meat. But we were headed to Basterma Mano, a more famous shop! It’s said that they have the best shawarma in the city. They have beef, chicken, and lamb shawarma, and they only cost $2.50 USD! First, the add pickle and tomato, and then they add the sujuk shawarma, and add either garlic sauce or mayo before toasting it in the panini press. The guy even cut some meat off for me. It was really juicy but only mid-level spicy! The sandwich was crispy with a nice burst of juiciness from the tomatoes. I loved the spicy beef sausage. It was so filling and tasty and took me straight back to my time in Armenia! It was even better when the cook come and added some creamy garlic sauce! Then, we saw them make some roast beef sandwiches with lettuce, pickle, tomatoes, and more. I got to see them smoking the sujuk and basturma. From there, we headed through the main square in the area, where we found an open-air cafe where they offer shisha and juices. Shisha is traditional in the Middle East. We also got some freshly pressed carrot juice. Both cost us less than $6 USD. Then, at Basterma Bedo, we watched them make basturma sandwiches out of the peppery beef and vegetables on a baguette. The beef was really peppery! The dried, aged, peppery beef was unbelievable. I loved the toasted baguette, pickle, and tomato as well. It was really nice and full of flavor! Where have you been? Like Rafik and Susan, dozens of Armenian families are reluctantly packing their bags in Nagorno-Karabakh, a disputed enclave in the heart of the Caucasus where a brief war between Armenia and Azerbaijan claimed more than 6,500 lives in 2020. Aghavno, like two other villages in the Lachin corridor, is part of the territory ceded by Armenia to Azerbaijan in virtue of the 2020 ceasefire agreements. Fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan flared up again on Monday night, with both sides reporting intense artillery shelling. At around midnight, Azerbaijani forces shelled Armenian troops at three locations along the border. Azerbaijan said it was responding to a buildup of Armenian landmines and weapons near the border. Armenia fired back in retaliation. The fighting took place near the Nagorno-Karabakh region, an area within Azerbaijan where ethnic Armenian separatists declared a breakaway republic — later known as Artsakh — in 1991. At a press briefing early on Tuesday, Armenian defense spokesperson Aram Torosyan said the situation remains "extremely tense" as fighting continues. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan later told parliament that "For the moment, we have 49 [troops] killed and unfortunately it's not the final figure." Armenia, Azerbaijan trade blame for violence Both countries claimed to have launched proportionate responses against what they saw as provocations from the other side. "At 00:05 a.m. [local time] on Tuesday, Azerbaijan launched intensive shelling, with artillery and large-caliber firearms, against Armenian military positions in the direction of the cities of Goris, Sotk, and Jermuk," Armenia's defense ministry said. However, Azerbaijan accused Armenian forces of carrying out "large-scale subversive acts" earlier on Monday night near the border districts of Dashkesan, Kelbajar and Lachin by placing landmines and mobilizing weapons. "The countermeasures taken by the Azerbaijani military in response to the provocation by the Armenian military are local and directed against legitimate military objects that serve as firing points," Azerbaijan's defense ministry added. Armenian forces said they subsequently launched a "proportionate" response. The Azerbaijani defense ministry said its troops came under "intense shelling from weapons of various caliber, including mortars, by units of the Armenian army." Both sides acknowledged troop casualties but did not confirm numbers. Long-running feud over Nagorno-Karabakh The ethnically Armenian enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh was the site of two wars between Azerbaijan and Armenia in recent decades. The territory was controlled by Armenian separatists for almost 30 years until Azerbaijan regained control of most of the territory after a six-week war in 2020 and a ceasefire agreement brokered by Russia. Last week, Armenia accused Azerbaijan of killing one of its soldiers in a border shootout, while Azerbaijan has also accused Armenia of firing at its troops in recent months. Այլ ա փայլը, Այլ ա փայլը քաղաքի։ Ելա, ելա, ամպերն ի վեր, I found myself, way far away. I found myself, way far away. I know you can feel it, the wind inside, The same thing in my heart that makes me feel alive, Whenever you feel it, don’t you think of falling down again. Քամի քամին, ինձ նորեն կտանի, Հեռուները դեպի, ամա - ամ - ամայի, ու, Քանի քանի, վեր ելլամ ավելի, Ես կլլամ քամի քո պես անտեսանելի։ - English translation: I go high and Theres a place where I feel safe and free. The city shines differently. I went higher and higher, higher than the skies, I found myself, way far away. The wind, the wind will take me again, To the wilds far away, Higher and higher I’ll go, I’ll be invisible, like you, wind. We’re high in the skies and no one can see us, The wind is with me and I’m not afraid, That it will leave me, that it will disappear, It holds me in its arms. I went higher and higher, higher than the skies, I found myself, way far away. The wind, the wind will take me again, To the wilds far away, Higher and higher I’ll go, I’ll be invisible, like you, wind. Ha… Wind wind, Ha… Wind wind. I know you can feel it, the wind inside, The same thing in my heart, that makes me feel alive, Whenever you feel it, don’t you think of falling down again. The wind, the wind will take me again, To the wilds far away, Higher and higher I’ll go, I’ll be invisible, like you, wind. - Read more about the Junior Eurovision Song Contest at 🤍
Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, addresses the general debate of the 77th Session of the General Assembly of the UN (New York, 20 - 26 September 2022). The Prime Minister of Armenia told the General Assembly his country is determined to defend its “democracy, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity by all means” in the conflict with Azerbaijan, but “diplomatic solutions are an absolute priority”. Speaking today (22 Sep), Nikol Pashinyan also said that “the full engagement and support of international community is crucial.” “We are determined to build peace in our region, but we need the full support of international community, which will stand by the sovereign and democratic country and people subjected to aggression against the norms and principles of international law,” said the Prime Minister. Pashinyan added that he believes “in the potential of establishing long-term stability, security and peace and Armenia is committed to continuing diplomatic efforts to this end.” Referring to the latest episode of violence, on September 13, the Head of Government said it “was not a border clash.” According to him, “it was a direct, undeniable attack against the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Armenia, which was condemned and addressed during the latest UN Security Council meetings and beyond.” In the wake of this offensive, the Armenian leader continued, “the official narrative and other sources of information suggest that Azerbaijan intends to occupy more territories of Armenia, which needs to be prevented.” “I want to stress that the risk of new aggression by Azerbaijan remains very high, especially taking into account that every day Azerbaijan violates the ceasefire, and the number of causalities and those injured could change any moment,” added Pashinyan.
