On 22 May 2019, the Faculty of Law of Lobachevsky University (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia) will host an international workshop “Competing Powers and Legal Orders in European/Eurasian Space(s)”. The workshop is organized by Lobachevsky University (Russia), University of Paris 13 (France) and Kutafin Moscow State Law University (Russia). The workshop is a result of follow-up activities within the framework of Jean Monnet Project EUSECU-POLE and Jean Monnet Module EUGLOBE implemented at Lobachevsky University (http://euglobe.ru). It also builds upon results of the GlobalContest project (http://olegkorneev.net/about-globalcontest/) implemented at the University of Paris 13 with funding from the French National Research Agency (ANR), and the Jean Monnet Chair “Legal Foundations of the EU-Russia relations” implemented at Kutafin Moscow State Law University.

The workshop brings together leading scholars and practitioners from Russian and foreign universities, research centers and international organizations (University of Paris 13 (France), University of Minho (Portugal), University of Bristol (United Kingdom), Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, Institute of Europe (Russian Academy of Sciences), Kazan Federal University, Higher School of Economics (Moscow, St. Petersburg), Court of the Eurasian Economic Union). Participants will discuss various types of interactions between key actors (states and international organizations) in the European and Eurasian spaces in various formats. They will, in particular, focus on competition and interdependence of legal orders in the areas of common and shared interests of the European Union, Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union. They will analyze legal and political outputs of these processes as well as potential for channeling them into constructive interactions.

Papers presented at the workshop will be published as a special issue of a peer-reviewed journal.

Working languages: Russian and English (with simultaneous translation).
